GPSIA Statement on the Precision Agriculture Focus in the 2026 Farm Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. February 19, 2026 – Lisa Dyer, Executive Director of the GPS Innovation Alliance (GPSIA), issued the following statement:

“GPSIA commends Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson for recognizing the vital role of GPS-enabled precision agriculture in strengthening America’s food security and rural economies in the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026. The bill’s increased support for precision agriculture, including GPS guidance and auto-steer systems, reflects the reality that modern farming depends on positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) capabilities.

“The bill emphasizes U.S. leadership in precision agriculture standards and rural broadband deployment to ensure our farmers have access to resource-saving technologies. GPS-enabled precision agriculture is critical to conserving energy and resources, reducing input costs and improving yields.

“Importantly, the bill also acknowledges that PNT, drones, and remote sensing have dual-use applications for both defense objectives and rural agricultural economies. The same GPS and other satellite PNT infrastructure that allows farmers to accomplish more with less also supports national security, critical infrastructure, public safety, and the modern U.S. economy. GPSIA looks forward to working with Congress to advance policies that reinforce U.S. leadership in precision agriculture and protect the satellite systems that make it possible.”
